Too Brilliant- The New Ylvis Video is About Massachusetts for Some Reason

The Norweigian comedy trio Ylvis has released a new video and for some reason its about Massachusetts. I have no idea what would ever inspire them to make this video.

Reminds me of this even more specific Massachusetts video.

Anyway, I think the Ylvis video is hilarious. Especially the part when they reflect on Kennedy’s assassination (2:10). There wasn’t nearly as much homophobic humor as I anticipated, which is a plus. But they still called boys that kiss other boys “confused”, which is nonsense but hey, it’s comedy.

This Ylvuis video must be the funniest:

Prince and Modernity and Hoobastank and the Electric Word, Life

“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life. Electric word, life. It means forever and that’s a mighty long time. But I’m here to tell you there’s something else – the afterworld. A world of never-ending happiness. You can always see the sun, day or night. So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills, you know the one, Dr. Everything’ll-Be-All-right, instead of asking him how much of your time is left, ask him how much of your mind, baby. ‘Cause in this life, things are much harder than in the afterworld. This life you’re on your own. And if de-elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy – punch a higher floor.”

This monologue is the introduction to the masterpiece album and film Purple Rain. The monologue manages to tackle quite a bit of heavy subject matter in less than 30 seconds, which is commendable. Prince wrestles with some genuinely modern themes here: isolation, the simultaneous denial and embrace of a religious faith, Psychiatry, the American concept of self-reliance/accountability…Clearly, there’s just a lot going. It’s a wonderful piece of prose.

This monologue makes me want to believe in an afterword and almost manages to instill in me a legitimate want to exist and live with fervor and purpose. This bit of writing just seems relevant for some reason.

Also Incubus covered this song, which just makes me feel weird. I generally feel strange whenever I think about how Incubus was/is a thing. Perhaps its their name, or their look, or the Wish You Were Here song…they just weird me out. Its like when people mention Hoobastank or Switchfoot, it’ll never make me feel good.

Anyway,
